In an emergency, a few minutes can make the difference between life and death, so imagine knowing you could wait 45 minutes for an ambulance.
That's what people in Twiggs County face right now.
There's currently no ambulance service based there., so emergency calls are usually dispatched out of Macon.
Wednesday a group of local leaders and concerned citizens met to look at different options.
People there pointed out that the recent opening of an employer with hundreds of workers., and a school system with a number of students with asthma and other health problems increases the chances someone will need help in a hurry.
Several people who live in Twiggs County said they're in favor of local ambulance service, but they don't want to see taxes increased to pay for it.
County leaders plan to take information from Wednesday's public meeting and create a plan to solve the problem.
