Two men were arrested Thursday and charged with illegal gambling after raids on two Monticello establishments.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation's newly created Commercial Gambling Unit, along with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, and the Georgia Department of Revenue executed search warrants at the Monticello Food Mart, 210 W. Greene Street, and the Petro Station, 142 Frobel Street.

Both locations are currently licensed to operate Coin Operated Amusement Machines.  In Georgia, credits may only be redeemed for lottery tickets and/or store merchandise.

During the course of the investigation, agents discovered customers were receiving cash payouts for winning credits.

The GBI arrested Hitesha Patel, 24 of Monticello and Komlan Koudjodji, 39 of Atlanta for felony counts of commercial gambling.

Monetary assets gained from the illegal use of the coin operated amusement machines were seized from both locations.
