Middle Georgia veterans falling on tough times seek help Friday from community organizations looking to offer their support at a Macon event.

Hundreds of veterans packed the VFW Post 9709 to pursue resources and opportunities available in the second annual Stand Down event. The event assists veterans in need by providing medical care, legal help, job opportunities, clothing, food, grooming and other services.

"There is a need to serve those that have served us," event organizer and host Lonnie Miley said.

Miley said the event is a big pick- me- up for veterans in Middle Georgia who have fallen on tough times. By bringing more than 50 organizations together, he wants veterans to find the help they need to succeed.

"This country should not have any homeless Veterans, we should not have Veterans who can't get benefits and that's what we're bringing to them."
