Some community members gather in Macon today to bring awareness to domestic violence.

Starting from Macon City Hall, a group of people walked to Gateway Park for the first "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes." It was hosted by members of Lizzie Chapel Baptist Church

October is National Domestic Violence Month, and church members want to bring awareness to the issues and stop all types of sexual violence.

One member's daughter was a victim, and she says marching with others helps show their unity in taking a step in the right direction to end the cycle of violence.

"Statistics say that 1 in 3 women will be or have been assaulted in their life and it's a statistic that we showed as marchers this morning that we are not willing to put up with." -- Theresa Harris, Event Organizer

There are already plans on hosting the walk again next year.
