PATEROS, Wash. (AP) — A big wildfire that's destroyed about 100 homes in and around Pateros in north-central Washington is forcing the residents of a second town to leave their homes. There's also a partial evacuation underway in a third town in the scenic Methow Valley. Officials say the fire has blackened more than 260 square miles and continues to grow. No injuries are reported.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States is building its case linking pro-Russian separatists to the downing of a passenger jet in Ukraine. President Barack Obama is calling the deaths of the 298 people on board an "outrage of unspeakable proportions." The U.S. believes the Malaysia Airlines plane was shot down by a missile launched from an area in eastern Ukraine controlled by separatists.
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — The only American identified as a victim of the crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 in Ukraine lived in New Jersey as a child and returned to the Netherlands when he was 5. Nineteen-year-old Quinn Lucas Schansman had duel Dutch-American citizenship. Ronald Schansman tells Philadelphia's WCAU-TV his grandson was on his way to Bali for a family vacation.
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Questions remain as to how far Israel will go to cripple Gaza's Hamas rulers. An Israeli ground offensive is pushing deeper into the densely populated coastal strip. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the military to prepare for a "significantly" wider campaign. At least 299 Palestinians are reported to have been killed in the last 11 days.
SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras (AP) — Fifty-nine women and children are back in Honduras after being deported from the United States. They arrived Friday on a plane from New Mexico. Two groups of migrants from Honduras have been sent back to their home country this week. On Monday, about 40 other migrants detained in New Mexico were deported to Honduras.
