ATLANTA (AP) — The National Weather Service says storms this week spawned a tornado that left a telltale path of destruction in north Georgia.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (http://on-ajc.com/1ttwS25 ) a weather survey team confirmed Friday that a tornado touched down Wednesday afternoon in Gilmer County near the Georgia-Tennessee state line.
Weather service meteorologist Carly Kobacik said the twister was on the lower end of the scale, likely an EF1. But it damaged trees along a path a mile long.
Kobacik said the survey team was still gathering details Friday.
