Weselyan College, the Macon women's institution of higher learning since 1836, will officially go to the Wolves on Thursday.

On Halloween, the nation's first college to grant degrees to women will introduce its new mascot.

But the college won't be retiring the Pioneer mascot. Weselyan will continue to use the Pioneer as its athletes will now be known as the Wolves on fields and courts.

Weselyan athletes, coaches, Athletic Director Patty Gibbs and college President Ruth Austin Knox (herself a Pioneer alumna and daughter of a Pioneer alumna) will gather on the North Macon campus at 3 p.m. to recognize the Wolf.
