German Chancellor Angela Merkel also warned of "massive" political and economic consequences if Russia refuses to soften its stance against Ukraine's new government. Kerry is to meet Friday in London with his Russian counterpart.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A spokeswoman for Philadelphia International Airport says two passengers requested medical attention after an airliner's nose gear collapsed during a Thursday evening takeoff. The pilot of the US Airways plane aborted the takeoff after the front landing gear blew a tire. There were 154 people aboard the flight, which was heading to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
NEW YORK (AP) — The search continues in the wreckage of two New York apartment buildings that collapsed Wednesday after an apparent gas explosion. An eighth victim's body was recovered Thursday. Crews have been using dogs and thermal-detection gear to search for victims.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has ordered the government to find more humane ways to handle deportation for immigrants in the U.S. illegally. He made the pledge during a meeting with Latino lawmakers. The White House says Obama told the lawmakers — all Democrats — that he's deeply concerned about the pain families suffer when they are separated due to a broken immigration system. A reform measure is stuck in the House.
